Year 4 Football v Danesfield Manor

On Thursday, Westward travelled to Danesfield for a ‘friendly’ fixture with our closest rivals. A nine player squad attended and all played their part!

Several players got the opportunity to play in goals (Victor, Sebastian and a pair of the three Charlies), and most played in different positions on the pitch.

The match began at a fast pace, Danesfield opening the scoring with a lovely goal in the second minute. Heads could have dropped, but to their credit, Year 4 played on with good spirit and plenty of effort.

Their determination paid off shortly after half time, when Anaay scored a super equaliser: roared on by an impressive showing of Westward parents and staff!

A nervy period for both teams began, neither side wanting to concede, knowing that the next goal might well be the winner. Play went back and forth with few clear chances until Tristan put Westward ahead with a lovely goal, right to left, across the keeper!

Danesfield were rather unlucky not to equalise shortly after, hitting the bar and then side netting, but in the end Westward held on for a super 2-1 victory!! The first of many we hope!

Congratulations to all involved; players and super supporters.
